OKA collection folder
The OKA collector’s album is a highly interesting piece of Finnish 1950s consumer history. It is a collector’s book for car and racing car pictures obtained from OKA coffee packages produced by Kahvi Oy, published in 1954–1955.
Commissioned by: Oy Kahvi, Kaffe Ab.
Printer: Oy F. Tilgmann Ab.
Publication period: 1954–1955.
Album size: approximately 29.8 × 21 cm.
Contents: eight pages for attaching collector cards.
Theme: cars and racing cars.
The cover of the album featured three racing cars on a mountain road. The back cover displayed the Kahvi Oy logo and the OKA emblem.
Inside the coffee package, or on the cardboard used to seal it, there was a picture of a car.
The collector detached the picture and attached it to the correct place in the collector’s album.
Coffee roasteries used collecting as a marketing tool. Children became enthusiastic about collecting the pictures, and families sometimes bought more coffee than usual because of the collecting.
Typically, the collector’s album could be obtained from the shop in exchange for about five collector pictures. In some campaigns, a fully completed album could be traded for a toy car as a prize.
